Are your Products Handmade?

Apart from our makeup line, we are proud to say that our skincare products are truly handmade. From start to finish, each product is formulated, handmade, labeled, and packed for shipment right here in Virginia.

What's the Shelf Life | Expiration Dates on Taylor Made products?

We use 100% natural preservatives such as potassium sorbate, food grade citric acid, phenoxyethanol (alcohol-paraben-formaldehyde-free). and pure undiluted essential oils, natural stabilization from nutrients, cold pressed oils, vitamins, and minerals found naturally within our ingredients.

Since we use natural preservatives found in nature, the shelf life is a little shorter compared to using preservatives like propylene glycol (made from antifreeze).

The Shelf life of our products varies for each product

Therapeutic Creams and Lotions
  • 6-12 months If kept in a cool area, away from direct sunlight, tightly closed the lid and always use a spatula to obtain the product from the jar it can lengthen the shelf life.
Therapeutic Salves
  • 12-24 months+ if kept in a cool area in the house. Our Herbal Salves will last longer than the date listed. If the salve becomes liquefied, place in the fridge for a few minutes to harden. Take out and use as needed. Heat can cause the product to liquefy (shipping, bathroom, or heated homes).
Organic Face Scrubs
  • 3 - 6 months Why such a shorter shelf life? Enzymes will lose their shelf life in a brief period due to being a living organism.
Organic Face Mask
  • 6-12 months
Organic Mud Mask
  • 12-24 months
Organic Face Cleanser
  • 12 months+
Organic Face Toners

Only cold-pressed oils. Why? Because they are not heated. When heated, oils can lose their nutrients, vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals.

Pure, raw, unrefined shea butter has been used for centuries to protect and nourish the skin. Shea butter is one of my favorite butters to add in our creams. It's rich, thick consistency is amazing, and the topical effects are even more amazing. Recent research shows that shea butter could be used topically for joint inflammation and as a natural sunscreen. Women in Africa apply it to their skin daily as a ritual and as we all know their skin is flawless and ageless.

We use natural plant-derived preservatives such as Vitamin E, Rosemary, Phenoxyethanol (alcohol-paraben-formaldehyde-free), kosher potassium sorbate, food grade citric acid, and natural preservatives found in our raw unrefined ingredients and cold pressed oils.

Why unrefined and cold pressed raw ingredients? Because cold processed oils are filtered at low temperatures still leaving behind the raw ingredients, we are looking for to use in Taylor Made skin care products. Un-refined products such as shea, cocoa, and mango butters are not filtered compared to refined products using chemical agents to do so and stripping all the vital nutrients.

Our Shea butter is 100% raw unrefined organic and fair trade. We made sure of that! Some other shea butters are extracted with hexane or other solvents, chemically bleached and deodorized, and treated with preservatives such as BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) or BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene). A product that undergoes these processes would not qualify for USDA organic certification.

Customers ask me all the time, "Why is your Shea Butter tan colored and other companies white?" Well, white colored shea butter is refined and has no nutritional value. When researching for a qualified fair-trade buyer, we made sure our shea butter was nature's finest, the best material available and still offering its benefits of being a super emollient, high in naturally occurring Vitamin A & E, and with excellent skin-conditioning properties. But most of all organic and fair trade.

Phenoxyethanol can be found naturally in green tea, but the commercial ingredient is synthetically produced in a laboratory creating what’s termed a “nature identical” chemical. Specifically, it’s created by treating phenol with ethylene oxide in an alkaline medium which all reacts to form a pH-balanced ingredient. It is alcohol-free, paraben-free, glycol-free, formaldehyde-free. It optimized protection against microbial growth from bacteria and yeast. All preservatives are scrutinized, including phenoxyethanol, which we have found very potent and safe. We decided to use phenoxyethanol because it would extend our shelf life a little longer than with grapefruit seed extract. We add no more than .5-1% to our creams, lotions, and exfoliants.

Potassium sorbate (kosher): polyunsaturated organic fatty acid from the berries of the Sorbus aucuparia (Mountain Ash) tree is used to inhibit mold and yeast. Potassium sorbate is non-irritating and non-sensitizing. It is a natural and safe preservative.

Citric acid is food grade. It helps to pull colors out of herbs to help tint our skincare products.

No Way!! As mainstream customers become more aware of the demand for Natural, Organic skincare products, they realize that those harmful preservatives and agents cause diseases, breathing problems, skin issues such as dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, etc, cancer, and overload the liver with estrogen.

Here at Taylor Made, we choose to use natural preservatives such as phenoxyethanol, potassium sorbate, food grade citric acid, rosemary extracts, Vitamin E, and natural preservatives from our raw materials.

Taylor Made does NOT use parabens, propylene glycol, sulfates, mineral oil, petroleum, ureas, phthalates, artificial colors, harsh preservatives, fragrances, synthetic fragrance, perfumes, wheat, gluten, xanthan gum, or other potentially toxic harmful ingredients.

We use ONLY pure undiluted essential oils, herbal extracts, organic fruit extracts, and nature's naturally scented ingredients. We do not and will never use fragrance oils.

Saponification is the process by which natural plant oils become pure soap when combined with alkaline water. A castile soap made properly made in the traditional kettle process contains no soap, water, and glycerin when it's done. The castiles that we handcraft are cured for five weeks for mildness. It is said that the process was first observed occurring naturally in ancient Rome at mount Sappo, hence the name saponification.

Taylor Made prefers to use glass, but we don't want you to get hurt while in the shower, tub, or giving your little one a bath. While glass is preferred, for safety reasons, we choose to use plastic bottles that are 100% recyclable PET.

Please recycle and remember you can use the containers for indoor and outdoor materials, screws, nuts, bolts, mixing ingredients, storing play dough, storing paint, sand, crafts, and more.

Our facial creams are unique too! Extracts are made days in advance to start our base with. Then we mix oils, water, emulsifiers, and are formulated extracts to create the wonderful facial creams and lotions you love so well!
